What I Read In March

March was an unexpectedly busy month for me. I spent most of the month working on revisions for my novel. I've come to realize that the only way I'll do revisions or rewrites is if I set myself a very tight deadline to complete them, which is how I wound up rewriting, with some minor changes, almost my entire novel is three weeks. Thankfully, I was able to get a lot of reading done at the same time.
In March, I read five books.

The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab
This was a captivating story with a dark and mysterious vibe and intriguing narrative. I loved the dark and foreboding atmosphere of this story. The plot kept me fully invested until the last page and I was equally rooting for, and scared for, the characters as I read.

Kiss of Death by Bryony Rosehurst
This novella was engaging on so many levels, from the Norse mythology-centric world-building to the romance and characters to the unique plot that unfolded. The first chapter had me hooked and the chemistry between Hel and Maeve kept me engrossed. The writing balanced the sweet romantic moments with the bittersweet ones well.

Her Cruel Dahlias by Candace Robinson
This story had a very interesting, unique premise about a resurrected carnival performer caught up in a murder investigation that eerily mirrors her own death. The abilities of the performers were fascinating and had an intriguing horror element.

This Delicate Flame by Avery Carter
This novella was a fun and cozy sapphic romantasy, with a great grumpy-sunshine dynamic between the two leads. While more character-focused, the story has plenty of surprises, and presents a number of mysteries and challenges for the characters to face in future books.

The Shipbuilder by Salina B. Baker
This book had an eerie atmosphere that matched its setting remarkably well. The plot kept me engaged until the last page, as I wondered where the story was headed. The paranormal and magical aspects felt more secondary or incidental than I was hoping for. Some of the characters were excellently developed, while others fell flat during my read.
